I made it out to the infamous Maroon Bells, and quickly realized why they are the most photographed peaks in North America. I encountered a few deer, a beaver (and his/her dam), many butterflies fluttering amongst the wildflowers, and enchanting views of the Maroon Bells and surrounding mountains.
With the longer days still in full swing, I highly recommend heading up there after 5:00 pm. From 5:00 pm - 9:00 am the road is open to vehicles with a $10 recreation use fee. From 9:00 am to 5:00 pm you must catch the bus to the Maroon Bells at Aspen Highlands.
I look forward to going back to explore the area even more. Next time I'd like to make it to the second lake, Crater Lake, which I've heard is absolutely stunning!
